National School Choice Week
Presentation
Last Wednesday, nine selected ACA 5th grade students, the
entire 6th grade class, and three high school students joined Mr.
Rodman, Dr. Robinson, Mrs. Quick, and me for a rally and presentation at the
Des Moines Historical Museum. It was a wonderful event where our student
ambassadors from ACA witnessed Governor Dr. Terry Branstad sign a proclamation
signifying that Iowa would recognize January 23-27, 2017 as School Choice week.
The boys and girls heard from a former administrator with a Catholic middle
school, a homeschool mother, and ACA’s own senior, Laura Toppin. All three
women shared the importance of Christian education and the benefits they had
experienced when parents/students are allowed to enjoy the freedom of school
choice.
Formative Assessment System for
Teachers (FAST)
At ACA, we have experience our second testing using Formative
Assessment System for Teachers (FAST). Your child may have come home sharing
with you that he/she has worked with their teacher to read once again to
determine how he/she is progressing in the area of reading. Our first testing
of FAST was in October of 2016. Our second testing started on January 17 and
will conclude on or before Friday, February 10. Your child’s teacher will be
emailing you about your child’s reading progress.
Please view the grade level and expected scores for fall compared to
winter screening periods.
